The Indianapolis Urban League extends its congratulations to Wishard Health Services on being honored with the Sam H. Jones Award at this year’s Mayor’s Celebration of Diversity Awards.
The Mayor’s Celebration of Diversity Awards honor businesses and organizations that support four major aspects of promoting diversity in the work place, including workforce diversity, development of diversity education and communication within the organization, community activities encouraging diversity, and leadership in diversity strategies throughout the organization. The prestigious Sam H. Jones Award recognizes a business or organization with the strongest performance in all four categories.
The Sam H. Jones Award is named in honor of the late Sam Jones, longtime president of the Indianapolis Urban League and a tireless advocate for peace, justice and understanding in Indianapolis. Mayor Gregory A. Ballard presented Wishard Health Services with the award this week.
“We are especially proud of Wishard’s selection to receive this award since they are one of our corporate partners and a client of our Diversity and Race Relations Institute,” said Joseph A. Slash, president and chief executive officer of the Indianapolis Urban League.
Winners were selected by a committee convened by Mayor Ballard and were based on nominations submitted by businesses and organizations and meetings held with nominees’ representatives.
